Scorpion BarCode FAQ The Frequently Asked Questions FAQ sheet is compiled from the questions that are received by Tech Support along with their responses:
How Often Is It Updated? The FAQ sheet is continuously updated whenever sufficient number of questions have been asked on the same topic. All responses relate to version 1.90 of the Scorpion BarCode software unless otherwise stated. MacOS X System Software Compatibility? The Scorpion BarCode software has been successfully tested with all versions of MacOS X system software and operates as a native MacOS X application taking full benefit of the advantages of the MacOS X system software including the new features introduced in MacOS X 10.4 Tiger such as Spotlight search technology. Tests have also been conducted on pre-release future systems and have met the requirements for MacOS X 10.5 Leopard including compatibility with its Time Machine backup technology. MacOS 9 System Software Compatibility? The Scorpion BarCode software has been successfully tested for use with all versions of MacOS 9 system software including where NetBoot and Multiple Users technology has been implemented. If you require backward compatibility prior to MacOS 9 as far back as the System 6.08 era, please send an eMail to Support@ScorpionResearch.com with your specifications and we will try and see if an older version will meet your requirements. Mac Hardware Compatibility? The Scorpion BarCode software will operate on all Apple MacOS computers whether based on the newer Intel chips or any type of the older PowerPC chips as long as they are capable or running MacOS 9 or MacOS X software. Although this generally includes all Apple MacOS computers built after 1998, please send an eMail to Support@ScorpionResearch.com with your hardware specifications if you would prefer us to check compatibility. EPS File Creation Problems? Although the Scorpion BarCode software has been thoroughly tested and found to create EPS files without errors, some users have reported that the "Unable To Create EPS File" error box appears when trying to save an EPS file in certain older versions of the Scorpion BarCode software. These errors were eliminated when version 1.40 was released which introduced vector editable EPS files for the first time. If you are using an older version please upgrade to prevent these problems. EPS File Cross-Platform Compatibility? The EPS (Encapsulated Post Script) file created by the Scorpion BarCode software is designed for use with any EPS compatible application, whether running on a MacOS computer or another platform. The files created by Scorpion BarCode software can be used on other platforms and has been successfully tested on certain hardware configurations although you should check the output on your intended platform for suitability before committing the file to press. If you are experiencing degraded output, it is possible that the EPS file is not being correctly transferred. If problems persist, it is safest to use the Clipboard to paste your Bar Code image directly into a cross-platform DTP layout software where possible and then transfer the final output file of that DTP layout software to your other hardware platform. How Do You Alter Bar Code Magnification? The Scorpion BarCode software creates both vector PICT images as well as vector EPS files. This means you can use the PICT file or the Clipboard to pass the Bar Code image in the PICT format to your preferred graphics image editing application. Alternatively, you can save the Bar Code image as an EPS file and edit the image in an EPS editing application. The vector editable format enables you to edit and scale the output on a resolution-independent basis. By grouping the various elements you can scale the bar code image depending on the graphics software being used and the choices it can offer. However, you should take care not to violate the dimension tolerances specified for the bar code symbology or you could invalidate the bar code image. The standard size is the ideal size. How Do You Alter Bar Code Colours? The Scorpion BarCode software creates both vector PICT images as well as vector EPS files. This means you can use the PICT file or the Clipboard to pass the Bar Code image in the PICT format to your preferred graphics image editing application. Alternatively, you can save the Bar Code image as an EPS file and edit the image in an EPS editing application. Each stripe and character can be edited for colour and style depending on the graphics software being used and the choices it can offer. However, you should take care not to violate the reflectance limits specified for the bar code symbology or you could invalidate the bar code image. Black on white offers maximum reflectance possibilities and is the preferred colour for most bar code symbologies. What If I Need A Specific Bar Code Symbology? The Scorpion BarCode software already supports a number of the most popular bar code symbolgies currently in use throughout a variety of industries. However, if you require a special bar code, we would be pleased to try and accomodate your needs. If you need a special symbology added, we would ask you to send an eMail to Support@ScorpionResearch.com with the specific details. If you have access to the specifications, please let us know.
