Internet MacOS 9 Configuration

1. Please make sure your Macintosh computer is switched on and connected to a telephone line. These instructions assume you are using MacOS 9 and that all the standard Internet components have been installed. Most of the instructions will also apply to previous versions of MacOS system software where appropriate software has been installed. Instructions for MacOS X are available separately.

2. Open the Remote Access Control Panel. This can be acheived by selecting Remote Access from the Control Panels folder under the Apple Menu. The Remote Access window will appear.

3. Select the Configurations item under the File Menu. Generally, ScorpionNet will co-exist with most other services. Select any listed item and press the Duplicate button. A box will appear asking you for a name. Enter ScorpionNet then press the OK button. When ScorpionNet is listed, click on the ScorpionNet item and then press the Make Active button. The Configurations window will disappear leaving only the Remote Access window.

4. The Remote Access window needs to have some information entered. Please ensure the information entered matches the following illustration:

You should enter your given UserID and Password in the boxes shown without the brackets which are only shown for illustrative purposes.

5. After you have finished entering your UserID and Password information, press the Options button. A window will appear with three tabs on its upper end named Redialling, Connection, and Protocol respectively. Click on the Redialling tab first to bring the Redialling Options to the front. You should now ensure the Redialling Options match the following illustration:

6. Click on the Connection tab next to bring the Connection Options to the front. You should now ensure the Connection Options match the following illustration:

7. Lastly, click on the Protocol tab to bring the Protocol Options in the front. You should now ensure the Protocol Options match the following illustration:

8. When you have ensured all three of the Option tabs are set in accordance with the illustrations, please press the OK button. The Options window will disappear leaving the Remote Access window as before.

9. Select the TCP/IP item under the Remote Access Menu. A window will appear. Please ensure the information entered matches the following illustration:

When you have ensured the information entered matches the illustration, please press the close box on the top left of the window. The TCP/IP window will disappear leaving only the Remote Access window as before.

10. Select the Modem item under the Remote Access Menu. A window will appear. Unless you are using a Modem which is not the Apple Personal Modem, please ensure the information entered matches the following illustration:

If you are using a different modem, please ensure you have selected the correct Modem by name and model as well as the correct Connection method. When you have finished, please press the OK button. The Modem window will disappear leaving only the Remote Access window as before.

11. Select the Quit item under the File Menu. When you are asked if you would like to save the changes, please press the Save button. The Remote Access window will disappear.

12. You have now successfully configured your Macintosh computer to connect to the Internet using the ScorpionNet service.

13. Whenever you wish to connect to the Internet, simply open the Remote Access Control Panel as before and press the Connect button. When you are connected, this button will be renamed as the Disconnect button. When you are finished using the Internet, please press this Disconnect button and wait until it renames itself as the Connect button signifying that it has completely disconnected. You may then close the Remote Access Control Panel by selecting the Quit item under the File Menu.
