Internet MacOS X Configuration

1. Please make sure your Macintosh computer is switched on and connected to a telephone line. These instructions assume you are using MacOS X and that all the standard Internet components have been installed. Instructions for MacOS 9 and earlier are available separately.

2. Open the System Preferences window. This can be achieved by selecting System Preferences from under the Apple Menu:

3. The System Preferences window will appear. Depending on the configuration of your computer, you may need to press the Show All button to see all of the settings:

4. Generally, ScorpionNet will co-exist with most other services. Select the Network item which will display the Network settings. On certain versions of MacOS X, the current Network Status is shown first by default. To switch to the settings window, please select Internal Modem from the Show menu:

5. The settings window will display four tabs to select the various data entry screens. The first tab is the TCP/IP window. Please ensure the information entered matches the following illustration:

6. After you have entered the TCP/IP information, press the PPP tab to see the PPP window:

You should enter your given UserID and Password in the boxes shown without the brackets which are only shown for illustrative purposes.

7. After you have finished entering your UserID and Password information along with the telephone access number, press the button marked PPP Options to see the following window:

Please check that the settings match the information shown in the window.

8. The next tab is the Proxies tab which should be pressed to view the Proxies window:

In most cases, the Proxies window will be blank as shown.

9. Finally, press the Modem tab to view the last entry screen:

Unless you are using a Modem which is not the standard Apple Internal Modem, please ensure the information entered matches the illustration.

10. To save your settings, please press Apply Now button. Alternatively, press the yellow Minimise button on the top left hand side of the Network window. This will result in a dialog box asking you to save your changes:

Pressing the Apply button will save your settings for future use.

11. You have now successfully configured your Macintosh computer to connect to the Internet using the ScorpionNet service.

12. Whenever you wish to connect to the Internet, simply open the Applications window and select the Internet Connect application:

13. Pressing the Connect button will connect you to the Internet displaying the settings you have previously entered:

When you are connected, this button will be renamed as the Disconnect button. When you are finished using the Internet, please press this Disconnect button and wait until it renames itself as the Connect button signifying that it has completely disconnected. You may then close the Internet Connect window pressing the red button in the top right hand corner of the Internet Connect window. If you wish to make it available in the Dock, please press the yellow button.

14. Enjoy using the Internet and thank you for choosing the ScorpionNet service!
